چکیده

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) methodology that connects several methods, from geometrical design post-process selection, into common optimisation framework. Design/methodology/approach A formulated and tested in case study. outcome the study analysed by comparing obtained results with alternative designs achieved using other methods. process potential method be used different settings are also discussed. Finally, work concluded stating main contribution highlighting where further research needed. Findings proposed implemented novel framework which applied physical component structural aircraft part was designed minimise weight while respecting static fatigue load cases. An addition goal manufacturing cost. Designs optimised two AM machines (EOS M400 Arcam Q20+), without post-processing (centrifugal finishing) considered. show significant reduction both cost compared one manufactured geometry more conventional methods milled aluminium. Originality/value allows holistic components considering manufacturability, functionality. Within same framework, setups can automatically evaluated any additional manual work.

Deformation Post-processing of Additive Manufacturing Components

Parts produced by additive manufacturing (AM) often require post processing to improve surface finish and mechanical properties. However, little attention has been given to including deformation in the post processing. Deformation post-processing can address some part size, manufacturing cost, and geometry limitations of 3D printing. Additionally, it could be used to create 3D surfaces using pl...

A Lean Manufacturing Roadmap for an Automotive Body Assembly Line within Axiomatic Design Framework

In this paper we are to present a practical application of Axiomatic Design (AD) methodology, as a roadmap to lean production, in redesigning a car body assembly line. Axiomatic Design theory provides a framework to simplify the whole problem. According to the AD principles, a hierarchical structure has been developed. The developed structure originated in lean manufacturing principles and exis...

Mechatronic Design for an Extrusion-Based Additive Manufacturing Machine

3D printers, especially in the implementation of innovative extrusion processes which do not have a long history of development, are often built by adapting mechanical designs, drives and controls previously developed for generic machine tools. This is done through a process of choice and integration which is based principally on empirical criteria and taking into account separately the differe...
